• 2006: Underwent shoulder surgery in November and was sidelined until May 2007; still finished 17th in the 2006 world standings with $59,557. Won the Industry (Calif.) Hills Charity Pro Rodeo; the Barstow (Calif.) Rodeo Stampede; the Poway (Calif.) Rodeo; the Kitsap County Fair & Stampede (Bremerton, Wash.); the XIT Rodeo & Reunion (Dalhart, Texas) and the Oakdale Saddle Club (Calif.) Rodeo. • 2004: Finished just $1,778 behind world champion Monty Lewis with $182,918 and was second in the all-around with $192,696. Won the Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo (Rapid City, S.D.); the Greeley (Colo.) Rocky Mountain Stampede; the Deadwood (S.D.) Days of ’76 Rodeo and the Red Bluff (Calif.) Round-Up. Original Coors Fans Favorite Cowboy, 1998 and 2001. His horse, Topofthemarket (Topper) was twice voted the PRCA/AQHA Horse of the Year, in 2003 and 2005 (Topper died April 5, 2007 after being struck by a car in a hit-and-run accident near Smith's Childress, Texas ranch)
