SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 15, 2018) – Wade Sundell couldn’t be any happier with the competition at the 69th San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo.

The Coleman, Okla., resident had a clean sweep in the saddle bronc riding after winning the third round with an 87-point score on Andrews Rodeo’s Fire Lane. Just two events later, he watched Shelby Janssen win the barrel racing and had even more reason to celebrate.

Both members of this couple are now headed to the semifinals, which begin on Feb. 20. Together, they have earned $12,188 here so far. Sundell and Janssen have a son together, Rankan, who turned three-months-old yesterday.

Sundell won this rodeo in 2014 and has had success here nearly every year that he has entered. He is the first saddle bronc rider this year to win all three rounds in the bracket and will enter the semifinals with the most money so far. There are two more brackets left to compete.

There was a clean sweep in the team roping and bull riding as well. Reigning world champions Erich Rogers and Cory Petska stopped the clock in 4.2 seconds on Wednesday. The Arizonans are on pace to win their second San Antonio Rodeo championships and will start the semifinals with $7,134 each.

Sage Kimzey, from Strong City, Okla., was one of two bull riders to make it to the eight-second buzzer on Wednesday. Kimzey had the highest-marked ride in this bracket when he scored 89 points on Andrews Rodeo’s bull named Thunder Rolls. Kimzey earned $3,270 to bring his total to $12,485. Kimzey has earned four gold buckles as being the world’s best, the last one in Las Vegas last December at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

Friday’s competition at the $1.7 million rodeo will see a new group of contestants hoping to cash in. Round one of Bracket 4 will start at 7 p.m. Bracket 4 will continue on Saturday. Competition in the final bracket will be Sunday and Monday, then the semifinals will start.
