Weekly Recap

by Matt Naber | Aug 06, 2018

The first week of August brought $1.78 million worth of PRCA action, as cowboys competed at 33 rodeos across North America.

The fastest times and highest scores might not always make the record book, but they make a lasting memory for fans and competitors. With about 650 PRCA competitions across the Western Hemisphere each year, there are plenty of opportunities to make a memorable ride.

Although the prize money differs from one competition to the next, the judging remains consistent across the board.

In addition to the fame that comes with winning the most prize money, each ride was a chance to be the best of the week. Here’s a look at the highest scores and fastest times for each event during that period.

Bareback rider Seth Hardwick made a 90-point ride on Frontier Rodeo’s Gunfire at the Dodge City (Kan.) Roundup Rodeo, Aug. 5.

Steer wrestler Kalane Anders clocked in at 3.5 seconds at the Douglas County Fair and Rodeo in Castle Rock, Colo., Aug. 3.

Two sets of team ropers made 4.0-second runs this week. Clay Tryan and Travis Graves made their run at Kansas’ Biggest Rodeo in Phillipsburg, Aug. 2. Derrick Begay and Cory Petska made their run at the Mountain Valley Stampede in Heber City, Utah, Aug. 4.

Saddle bronc rider Allen Boore made a 93-point ride on Burch Rodeo’s No. 873 at the Home on the Range Champions Ride in Sentinel Butte, N.D., Aug. 4.

Two tie-down ropers made 7.5-second runs this week. Jake Pratt made his run at the Northeast Montana Fair & Rodeo, Aug. 1. Cody Craig made his run at the Big Sky Pro Rodeo Roundup in Great Falls, Mont., Aug. 3.

Steer roper Tuf Cooper made a 9.3-second run during the third round of the Dodge City Roundup Rodeo.

Barrel racer Rebecca Weiner made a 14.4-second run at the Gerry (N.Y.) Volunteer Firemen’s Rodeo, Aug. 4.

Bull rider Braden Richardson made a 91-point ride on Andrews Rodeo’s Dirty White Boy at the Wild Bill Hickok Rodeo in Abilene, Kan., Aug. 4.
