News & Notes from the rodeo trail

Pickett to be inducted as honorary member of Ponca City 101 foundation. Late ProRodeo Hall of Fame steer wrestler Bill Pickett will be inducted as an honorary member of the Ponca City (Okla.) 101 Wild West Rodeo Foundation during the upcoming rodeo June 6-8. Pickett’s family Dannie Anderson, Gerald Anderson, Nekoye Anderson also will be presented with a belt buckle in honor of Bill. The family will have an exhibit set up at the Osage Casino in Ponca City. Bill Pickett, born in 1870, is credited with founding bulldogging or steer wrestling, as it is known today. He was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 1989.

Danny Carl Carrico, a PRCA Gold Card member and former tie-down roper, of Edna, Kan., passed away April 23. He was 81.

Carrico was born on Sept. 27, 1937 in Bartlesville, Okla., to Roscoe and Nina (Dallison) Carrico. Danny attended McKennon School on Pumpkin Creek before moving to Edna with his parents where he attended Edna schools. He was a member of the Leib 4-H. He graduated from Edna High School in 1955, and he continued his education at Coffeyville Community College where he earned his Associates of Arts degree. After graduation, he joined the Kansas Army National Guard where he proudly served 8 years before being honorably discharged.

He was introduced to his wife DeeAnn through a mutual friend and they were married June 30, 1967. They were blessed with a son, David. Danny began his career as a woodworker at a very young age building his sister a kitchen set. He was a master craftsman until his passing. He has built countless homes, cabinets, and family heirlooms in the Coffeyville, Edna, Dewey, Bartlesville, and surrounding areas. Danny had made his home on his grandparent’s farm where he farmed, raised cattle and horses, and raised his family.

Danny attended Don McLaughlin’s roping school in the early 1960s and went on to compete in tie-down roping in the PRCA.
