PRCA For The Record: Sisters Rodeo

A lot has changed at the Sisters (Ore.) Rodeo since its inception in 1940 when competitors used hand-painted cloth back numbers while competing for $500 purses, the same amount paid out at the Pendleton (Ore.) Round-Up and Cheyenne (Wyo.) Frontier Days at the time.

Today, the numbers are bigger with far more money and competitors, but only the best have left their mark by setting a Sisters Rodeo record.

The Sisters Rodeo was a sanctioned PRCA rodeo in 1952-55 and 1969-71, then returned to the PRCA in 1988 and has remained since. During that time, many records have been set – almost entirely by cowboys who have competed at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

Steer wrestler Shawn Greenfield is the only cowboy with two records at the Sisters Rodeo. In 2005, he set the two-head average record at 8.3 seconds. Five years later, in 2010, Greenfield made the fastest run at the Sisters Rodeo with a time of 3.6 seconds.

The Oregon cowboy made seven trips to the Wrangler NFR (2003-07, 2009 and 2011) and surpassed $1 million in career earnings since joining the PRCA in 1997.

Some of the record-holders at the Sisters Rodeo are also world champions – team roping header Chad Masters (2007, 2012), team roping heeler Jade Corkill (2012-14), saddle bronc rider Taos Muncy (2007, 2011), tie-down roper Tyson Durfey (2016), saddle bronc rider Ryder Wright (2017) and bull rider Shane Proctor (2011).

Cowboys will have a chance to top the Sisters Rodeo records while winning their share of the prize money June 7-9.
