Clayton Biglow ties Hermiston record for the win

HERMISTON, Ore. – Bareback rider Clayton Biglow left his mark by tying the rodeo record of 89 points on Korkow Rodeo’s Asian Orchid for the win at the ProRodeo Tour’s Farm-City Pro Rodeo in Hermiston, Ore., Aug. 10.

“Hermiston is always a tough rodeo,” Biglow said, attributing a lot of his win to Hermiston’s top-tier roughstock.

Biglow’s draw was a bit of a mystery for the 23-year-old cowboy. All he knew was that Spur Lacasse posted an 86-point ride aboard Asian Orchid at the Roughrider Days Rodeo in Dickinson, N.D., at the end of June, and that meant there was potential for a high score in Hermiston.

Before his win in Hermiston, the California cowboy was second in the PRCA | RAM World Standings and $11,952 away from claiming the lead. Now he’s $6,260 closer to his goal of winning his first world title thanks to winning the rodeo and tying Hermiston’s record of 89 points set by Andy Martinez in 2006 and matched by Austin Foss in 2017.

“That’s a good weekend, it sometimes takes four rodeos to win that much,” Biglow said.

Winning Hermiston increased Biglow’s lead in the ProRodeo Tour Standings, where he led the competition by nearly 2,000 points with 6,871.63 points. At this point in the season, he’s guaranteed a spot at the ProRodeo Tour Finale in Puyallup, Wash., Sept.  5-8.

“I’ve been drawing really good this year, so it’s thanks to a lot of horsepower,” Biglow said, noting that C5 Rodeo’s Virgil and Frontier Rodeo’s Gunfire have made quite an impact. “It’s hard to pick just one, honestly. Gunfire’s been awesome this year and winning every time they nod their head on him.”

Biglow’s been on a hot streak lately, having recently won Cheyenne (Wyo.) Frontier Days

“It’s because I’ve been drawing great horses and feeling good, so it’s all falling into place,” Biglow said. “It feels great to be on a hot streak no matter when you win or where, but it’s nice because I’ve never had a super-great summer. I’ve had decent summers, but my goal each year is to do better than the year before, and it just feels good to be having the best summer of my career.”

Biglow has qualified for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo every year since winning the bareback riding rookie of the year title in 2016 and is well on his way to arriving in Las Vegas with the best chance he’s had to win the world title.

“This year flew by so fast, it’s crazy,” Biglow said. “I feel great and would like to keep the ball rolling.”

Biglow’s taking a short break for a few days before hitting the road for the Gooding (Idaho) Pro Rodeo, the Caldwell (Idaho) Night Rodeo and the Canby (Ore.) Rodeo – all ProRodeo Tour stops that can be watched live on later this week.

Other winners at the $214,899 rodeo were all-around cowboy Clint Robinson ($2,384 in tie-down roping and team roping); steer wrestler Jesse Brown (7.6 seconds on two head); team ropers Charly Crawford/Logan Medlin (10.4 seconds on two head); saddle bronc rider Dawson Hay (86 points on Calgary Stampede's Arriving Kamloops); tie-down ropers John Douch, Jake Pratt, Reese Riemer and Lane Livingston (17.8 seconds on two head); barrel racer Brittney Barnett (17.01 seconds); and bull rider Josh Frost (87.5 points on Corey & Lange Rodeo's Damn Right).
