PRCA For The Record: Wrangler NFR Round 6

The winners of the average aren’t set in stone by Round 6 of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, but there’s a pretty good idea of who the top contenders are for the average and the world titles. Each night is a chance to set a record for that round, but only the best set a record for the entire Wrangler NFR.

Steer wrestler Bryan Fields stopped the clock in 3.0 seconds during Round 6 of the 2001 Wrangler NFR, the first steer wrestler to make a 3.0-second run at the Finals since Steve Duhon during Round 5 in 1986.

Fields went on to finish second in the 2001 world standings and made a total of five qualifications to the Wrangler NFR (1998 and 2000-03).

From 1998 through 2010 he won some of ProRodeo’s biggest competitions, including:

• Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo in Colorado Springs, Colo. – 2002
• San Angelo (Texas) Stock Show and Rodeo – 2007
• San Antonio (Texas) Stock Show & Rodeo – 2003
• Sandhills Stock Show and Rodeo in Odessa, Texas – 2001
• Sisters (Ore.) Rodeo – 2001 and 2004
