Updated COVID-19 guidelines

by PRCA ProRodeo | Jun 18, 2020

Dear PRCA Rodeo Committee,

We have successfully Kicked Open the Chutes since Memorial Day weekend and we are excited to be rodeoing again throughout the country. Contestant entries are up across all events, and stock contractors are bringing in additional livestock to accommodate. We have had rodeos without fans, with limited spectators, and last weekend in Woodward, Oklahoma, with a sold-out grandstand. The rodeos to date have had a variety of requirements and ground rules including health screening, face masks, social distancing, and sanitation stations.

Rodeo is not a one-size-fits-all sport and COVID-19 requirements vary greatly. We are here to help you in hosting your rodeo. We want to clarify the rumor that the PRCA is requiring you to follow all of the rules written in the PRCA Coronavirus Ground Rules and Safety Guidelines.

  • We do not require your rodeo to follow each point of this document to the fullest extent. The United States is opening at varying levels and we will customize a plan that meets the local requirements for your rodeo.
  • These guidelines were written with the intent to help a rodeo that has the most COVID-19 restrictions.
  • The guidelines are a resource document for your committee to work with government officials and agencies in developing a safe return to rodeo plan.
  • We are committed to assist you as you navigate through government/agency approval processes. Our team, in conjunction with you, will develop a specific set of COVID-19 Rodeo Ground Rules and will communicate with the contestants.

Anthony Bartkowski, PRCA’s Director of Athlete Development and Welfare, is the lead for working with you in developing the ground rules, answering questions, and helping develop a plan for approval from local government officials and health departments. He can be contacted at 719-528-4729 or abartkowski@prorodeo.com.

Our goal is to help all PRCA rodeos develop a Coronavirus Action Plan that meets or exceeds local, county and state requirements. Our vision is to safely host rodeos and not jeopardize the legacy or the future of your rodeo. As always, please reach out to me or my team to discuss ways we can assist your rodeo. Thanks for your response in these challenging times.

Best regards,
George Taylor
Chief Executive Officer
