For the Record: Rodeo Austin



Since 1989, Rodeo Austin (Texas) has attracted some of the biggest names in ProRodeo, since it’s not uncommon for cowboys to win more than $10,000.

Boasting payouts in excess of half a million dollars, Rodeo Austin has been one of the Top 10 highest-paying competitions in ProRodeo for the last few years. In 2016, Austin had its biggest payout with $523,486. 

Ryan Jarrett set the Austin record for most money won in all-around with $12,012 in 2016. 

Bareback rider Royce Ford (pictured above) set two records in 2005. His 92-point, record-setting ride helped him also set the three-head average record of 259 points. 

Three bulldoggers share the steer wrestling arena record of 3.2 seconds at Austin. Levi Wisness set the record in 2007, which was matched by Matt Reeves in 2009 and Casey Martin in 2014. Todd Fox set the two-run average record in 1991 in 7.4 seconds. Reeves set the three-run average record of 11.3 seconds in 2010. 

Four sets of team ropers share the Austin arena record of 3.9 seconds – JoJo LeMond and Randon Adams (2009), Derrick Begay and Will Woodfin (2014), Aaron Tsinigine and Kory Koontz (2014), and Dustin Egusquiza and Koontz (2017).

Team ropers Speed Williams and Rich Skelton set the two-run average record of 9.5 seconds in 2000. Mike Bacon and Dennis Gatz set the three-run average record of 14.7 seconds in 2008.

Saddle bronc rider Spencer Wright set the Austin record in 2015 with a 94-point ride. Bobby Griswold set the two-head average record of 165 points in 1999. Wade Sundell set the three-head average record in 2010 with 253 points.  

Tie-down roper Fred Whitfield set the Austin record of 7.0 seconds in 2014. Blair Burk set the two-run average record of 16.4 seconds in 1999. Scott Kormos set the three-run average record of 23.9 seconds in 2010. 

Barrel racer Kappy Allen set the arena record of 14.27 seconds in 2000. Jill Moody set the three-run average record in 2009 in 44.16 seconds. 

Bull rider Clint Branger set the Austin record of 94 points in 2004, which was matched by Trey Traweek in 2004 and Justin Edmonds in 2005. Cody Hancock set the two-head average record in 2006 with 180 points. Logan Knibbe set the three-head average record of 265 points in 2003.
