Rowdy Parrott breaks St. Paul record

Rowdy Parrott broke the St. Paul (Ore.) Rodeo’s steer wrestling record with a 3.4-second run on July 4.

“It was very exciting to know I had just broke the arena record,” Parrott said. “It’s the first arena record I have.”

The Mamou, La., cowboy topped the previous record of 3.5 seconds that was set by Mike Fuller in 1986 and matched by Luke Branquinho (2002) and Shawn Greenfield (2016).

“I had a good steer and a good start and made a good run,” Parrott said, adding that his steer previously made a 4.4-second run. “I knew I had to get a good start and there was a chance to do good.”

Parrott was riding Tyler Pearson’s American Quarter Horse, Bobby, and had three-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier Kyle Irwin as his hazer.

“They were great, the horse worked good and Kyle was perfect, and everything came together,” Parrott said.

Parrott was ranked 29th in the PRCA | RAM World Standings before Cowboy Christmas. There’s plenty of season left for Parrott to gain some ground and make his second consecutive Wrangler NFR qualification.
