For the Record: Lawton

Although the Lawton (Okla.) Rangers Rodeo is celebrating its 80th year of competition, the rodeo’s PRCA record book begins in 1946 and includes some of the biggest names in professional rodeo.

Cowboys have from Aug. 8-11 to win their share of the Lawton prize money and possibly set a rodeo record.

Lawton’s biggest payout was $208,128 in 2009.

Trevor Brazile set the record for most money won in all-around with $6,611 in 2009.

Two bareback riders share the Lawton record of 90 points. James Boudreau set the record in 2003, and Justin McDaniel matched his score in 2009.

Three steer wrestlers share the Lawton record of 3.1 seconds. Sean Mulligan and Clayton Hass both set the record in 2015, and J.D. Struxness matched their time in 2016.

Team ropers Colter Todd and Cesar de la Cruz set the Lawton record of 3.8 seconds in 2008.

Saddle bronc rider Wade Sundell set the Lawton record of 90 points in 2015.

Two years before setting the all-around record, Brazile also set the tie-down roping record with a 6.8-second run in 2007.

Barrel racer Lisa Lockhart set the Lawton record of 16.93 seconds in 2017.

Two bull riders share the Lawton record of 94 points. Blu Bryant set the record in 2003, and Dave Samsel matched his score in 2008.
