For the Record: Puyallup

Since 1946, the significance of Puyallup, Wash., in professional rodeo has been more than just a large payout. The Washington State Fair Pro Rodeo has hosted events such as the Wrangler ProRodeo Tour and the Justin Boots Playoffs. Now it’s home to the Wrangler ProRodeo Tour’s Justin Finale, a half-million-dollar competition.

The lineup for this year’s Puyallup rodeo features the top 24 cowboys in each event based on the 22 rodeos in the Wrangler Tour.

Steer wrestler Buz Peth has the oldest record at Puyallup with his 2.8-second run made in 1959. Peth went on to compete at the 1969 National Finals Rodeo in tie-down roping.

Cowboys will have from Sept. 6-9 to top Peth’s record, and others, while winning their share of the Puyallup prize money.
