Kimzey sets regular season money record

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Setting PRCA records is nothing new for bull rider Sage Kimzey.

The Strong City, Okla., cowboy added another to his resume, as he established the PRCA record for money earned in a season before the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo with $274,099, including ground money. Kimzey owned the previous record with $237,152, set last season.

“Anytime you can mess with the history books it is always fun,” said Kimzey, 24. “That’s definitely a pretty good one for sure. There are a lot of different ones that mean lots of different stuff to lots of people, but that one you are looking at every cowboy from history. Not only does it mean I did well, but also that our sport is going in the right direction. That’s really good.”

As impressive as Kimzey’s season money total is, the four-time reigning world champion still hasn’t met his regular-season-money expectation. The 2018 PRCA regular season ends Sept. 30.

“I was aware of what the (bull riding) regular-season record was before this year, and my goal is to win $300,000,” Kimzey said. “I still have a little bit of time, and there’s a lot of money to still be won.”

Kimzey can increase his money total while competing in the Wrangler Tour’s Justin Finale in Puyallup, Wash., Sept. 6-9. The top 24 competitors in the Tour standings in each event earned a spot at the Justin Finale.

Kimzey will ride on Outlaw Buckers' Tub Sweat & OBB, Sept. 6, and then he'll be on Bridwell Pro Rodeos’ Crowd Pleaser, Sept. 7.

“I’m excited for Puyallup for sure, it should be a lot of fun,” he said.

Last season, Kimzey set the bull riding record for most money won after the Wrangler NFR at $436,479, which is also a record he wants to break again.

“It would be awesome if I could bump that up to half a million dollars just in one event, just riding bulls in the PRCA that would be an accomplishment for sure,” Kimzey said.
