Standings Shuffle: 32 move up in Top 15

by Matt Naber | Sep 11, 2018

As the end of the 2018 regular season rapidly approaches, cowboys flocked to the Justin Finale in Puyallup, Wash., to compete for nearly half a million dollars in prize money.

But that wasn’t the only place to win money last week, as cowboys competed at 18 rodeos across North America worth a collective $927,275 from Sept. 3-10. With so much money up for grabs, 32 cowboys climbed within the Top 15.

Veteran and rookie cowboys know it’s easier to maintain a position at the top than it is to play catch-up when trying to qualify for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Every dollar counts, and making the Top 15 in the PRCA | RAM World Standings early establishes a solid base and builds a cowboy’s confidence as the season picks up pace.

Nobody knows this better than bull rider Roscoe Jarboe, who moved from 15th to seventh. Jarboe moved eight spots this week thanks to winning $4,875 at Puyallup, $4,089 at the Division 2 Qualifying Event Xtreme Bulls in Lewiston, Idaho, and $521 at the Spokane (Wash.) Interstate Rodeo.

The following cowboys saw their positions improve in the PRCA World Standings during the week.

Cowboys on the bubble for a spot in the Top 15 can find themselves a few dollars short of qualifying for the Wrangler NFR. The following cowboys climbed to No. 16.

• Team roping header Joshua Torres moved from 17th and is $3,018 away from breaking into the Top 15.
• Saddle bronc rider Spencer Wright moved from 18th and is $1,666 away from breaking into the Top 15.

With the Pendleton (Ore.) Round-Up underway through Sept. 15, the world standings are sure to change and possibly give a hint at who will qualify for the 2018 Wrangler NFR.

Check back with next week to see who the new leaders are in the world standings.
