Weekly Recap

It was go big or go home during the final week of the 2018 regular season. Cowboys brought their best to the last 19 rodeos worth a collective $817,686 Sept. 24-30, and with that came some fast times and high scores.

The fastest times and highest scores might not always make the record book, but they make a lasting memory for fans and competitors. With about 650 PRCA competitions across the Western Hemisphere each year, there are plenty of opportunities to make a memorable ride.

Although the prize money differs from one competition to the next, the judging remains consistent across the board.

In addition to the fame that comes with winning the most prize money, each ride was a chance to be the best of the week. Here’s a look at the highest scores and fastest times for each event during that period.

Bareback rider Richmond Champion made an 89.5-point ride on Dakota Rodeo’s 100 Proof at the Sioux Falls (S.D.) Premier Rodeo, Sept. 28.

Two steer wrestlers made 3.5-second runs this week. Cameron Morman made his run at the American Royal Rodeo in Kansas City, Mo., Sept. 26. Tanner Brunner made his run at the 49th annual Cowboy Capital of the World PRCA Rodeo in Stephenville, Texas, Sept. 30.

Two sets of team ropers made 3.9-second runs at Stephenville, Sept. 30 – Bubba Buckaloo and Hunter Koch tied for first place with Tyler Wade and Tyler McKnight in the one-header competition.

Saddle bronc rider Cort Scheer made an 88-point ride on Korkow Rodeos’ Bad Onion at the Corn Palace Challenge in Mitchell, S.D., Sept. 29.

Tie-down roper Marty Yates broke a rodeo record in Stephenville with his 7.2-second run Sept. 29. The previous record was 7.3 seconds, shared by Kurt Goulding (2002), Fred Whitfield (2002), Tyson Durfey (2016) and Tuf Cooper (2017).

Both Trevor Brazile and Roger Branch made 9.7-second runs in Stephenville on Sept. 27 to split the win in steer roping.

Barrel racer Ericka Chase made a 14.34-second run at the Professional Boots-N-Bulls rodeo in Windsor, Maine, Sept. 29.

Bull rider Rorey Maier made a 91-point ride on Sutton Rodeos’ High Roller in Sioux Falls, Sept. 29.
