Clarys wins RAM Mountain States Circuit Finals Rodeo

LOVELAND, Colo. – Saddle bronc rider Andy Clarys is headed back to the RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo.

Clarys secured his third trip to the RAM NCFR by capturing the title at the RAM Mountain States Circuit Finals Rodeo on Saturday.

The Riverton, Wyo., cowboy won the average with 228 points on three head.

“It is cool to get to go back to the RAM Finals,” said Clarys, 31. “There’s a handful of guys who circuit rodeo, and to do as good as I have done is great.”

Clarys also qualified for the National Circuit Finals Rodeo in 2012 and 2016. In 2012, he won the average and year-end titles in the Mountain States Circuit and in 2016 he was the average champ at the Mountain States Circuit Finals Rodeo.

Clarys won the average since he was the only one to ride three horses. He clinched the average crown with a 74.5-point ride on Burch Rodeo's Loose Cinches.

“I was the last guy out, and I knew all I had to do was ride,” said Clarys, who does day work and builds saddles when he isn’t rodeoing. "I was hoping for a little better score, but I was able to accomplish what I wanted."

Clarys departed the RAM MSCFR after earning $4,870.

“It was a really good payday,” Clarys said. “It comes at a good time of the year. In (2018), I had some trouble and broke a saddle, and I couldn’t get it rolling. This is what I do, and I enjoy what I’m doing.”

Clarys had a 73-point ride in the first round and then rocketed up the leaderboard when he won the second round with an 80.5-point ride on Summit Pro Rodeo’s Stage Stop.

“I just wanted to ride well,” Clarys said. “It just so happened that only four of us rode in the first round and I got a check. The second round, I’ve been on that horse several times and have gotten along well with him. That ride went well and I won the round. In the third round, I was expecting more of myself, but all in all I won the average and it was a good weekend.”

Other winners at the $158,741 rodeo were all-around cowboy Garrett Uptain ($7,526, saddle bronc riding and bull riding); bareback rider Seth Hardwick (246 points on three head); steer wrestler Beau Clark (12.3 seconds on three head); team ropers Paul Beckett/JC Flake (17.7 seconds on three head); tie-down roper Kyle Dickens (28.3 seconds on three head); barrel racer Ivy Conrado (46.46 seconds on three runs); bull rider Garrett Uptain (166 points on two head).
