Former NFR announcer Endsley passes away

by Tracy Renck | Jan 22, 2019

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Don Endsley, who was an announcer at the 1984 National Finals Rodeo and was a PRCA Gold Card member, passed away Jan. 16. He was 70.

In addition to the NFR, Endsley, a former bull rider, announced many marquee rodeos, including the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo in Denver and Rodeo Houston.

Endsley’s voice was heard in the 1991 movie “My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys.” His voice was also featured in a Wrangler jeans TV commercial with PRCA bull riding world champion Ted Nuce.

Endsley rode bulls into the early 1970s, and in 1976 he got his start announcing PRCA rodeos – his first coming in Duluth, Minn. Endsley also was known for putting on the awarding-winning “Great American Wild West Show.”

A memorial service and a celebration of Endsley’s life will be held Jan. 26 at Drasco (Ark.) General Baptist Church, 6800 Heber Springs Road. Visitation at the church will be from noon to 2 p.m. (CT). Cards and letters may be sent to 150 Five Mile Road, Drasco, Ark., 72530.
