Standings Shuffle: 30 Move Up In Top 15

by Matt Naber | Mar 27, 2019

Cowboys across the Western Hemisphere spend the season working toward a chance to compete at the RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo in Kissimmee, Fla., and those who make the cut can make large jumps within the PRCA | RAM World Standings once the dust settles in the Silver Spurs Arena.

With the RAM NCFR’s conclusion March 24, the winners of each event added more than $10,000 to their season earnings and saw a substantial leap in their position within the world standings.

Cowboys know it’s easier to maintain a position at the top than it is to play catch-up when trying to qualify for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Every dollar counts, and making the Top 15 in the PRCA | RAM World Standings early establishes a solid base and builds a cowboy’s confidence as the season picks up pace.

Nobody knows this better than team roping heeler Chase Boekhaus and bull rider Garrett Smith, as both cowboys moved up 27 spots in their respective events last week.

Boekhaus jumped from 42nd to 15th in team roping heeling thanks to raking in $11,940 with Dylan Gordon at the RAM NCFR. The duo won the average for the first two rounds with 10.5 seconds on two head.

Smith’s jump from 34th to seventh in bull riding came when he won the second round and the finals at the RAM NCFR. His 87-point ride on 4L & Diamond S Rodeo’s Rough Ride in Round 2 and his 85-point ride on Painted Pony Championship Rodeo’s Holly Holy as the only bull rider to make the whistle added up to $29,711.

With Rodeo Austin (Texas) and the High Desert Stampede in Redmond, Ore., – both ProRodeo Tour events – concluding this weekend, those numbers are sure to increase and big jumps such as these are likely to happen again.
