Steer wrestler Aaron Vosler was lightning quick while competing at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo in the AT&T Center, Feb. 12. Vosler, a Wyoming cowboy, clocked a 3.0-second time in the first round of Bracket 3, tying the rodeo record set by Timmy Sparing in 2014.

This week’s leaderboard features 11 additions – bareback riders Wyatt Denny, Jared Keylon, Richmond Champion and Tanner Aus, steer wrestlers Richard Coats and Stephen Culling, team ropers Clay Smith/Jake Long (twice), Caleb Smidt/Will Woodfin, Luke Brown/Paul Eaves, and tie-down roper Jake Pratt. The majority of these high scores and fast times occurred at the San Angelo (Texas) Rodeo, which runs Feb. 1-15 and boasts more than $350,000 in prize money.

ProRodeo Hall of Famer and two-time Saddle Bronc Riding World Champion Deb Copenhaver passed away late at night after going to sleep Feb. 6 at his home in Creston, Wash., a few weeks after his 94th birthday, said his son Jeff Copenhaver.

Bull rider B.J. Schumacher (pictured above) nailed a 95-point ride on Diamond G Rodeo’s Mr. USA at San Antonio’s Xtreme Bulls event in 2004. As for San Antonio rodeo records, not counting the Xtreme Bulls, Ardie Maier holds the bull riding record with a 94-point ride on Andrews Rodeo’s Cyclone in 2010. Cowboys have from Feb. 7-23 to top Schumacher’s and Maier’s scores.

Since 1966, the Dixie National Rodeo in Jackson, Miss., has hosted some of the biggest names in ProRodeo and witnessed some fast times and high scores, as cowboys competed for this iconic rodeo’s large payout. Steer wrestler J.W. Farrington holds the longest-standing record at the Dixie National Rodeo with his 2.9-second run that he made in 1983.

The groundhog didn’t see his shadow on Feb. 2, but plenty of cowboys were seeing green as the five competitions held Jan. 28 through Feb. 3 were worth a collective $287,147. The bulk of this week’s prize money came from Rodeo Rapid City (S.D.), but a few lucky cowboys walked away with thicker wallets at the Indianapolis addition of the Cinch World’s Toughest Rodeo. With so much money up for grabs, 19 cowboys climbed within the Top 15.
