Bull rider Trevor Kastner, shown above taking a victory lap after winning Round 6 of the 2013 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, broke six ribs, had a Grade 2 laceration of the liver and suffered a concussion when he was bucked off Beutler & Son Rodeo’s Tombstone on March 15 at Rodeo Austin (Texas).

Since 1957, the Southeastern Livestock Exposition in Montgomery, Ala., has hosted some of the biggest names of ProRodeo. Steer wrestler Charlie Lowry has maintained the Montgomery record for 34 years with his 3.2-second run that he made in 1984.

Warm weather and big payouts drew many ProRodeo cowboys south, as five of the six rodeos held last week were south of the Mason-Dixon line from March 6-11. Team roping heeler Jonathan Torres moved from 25th to 15th thanks to winning $2,420 at the Arcadia All-Fla Championship Rodeo.

​Since 1989, Rodeo Austin (Texas) has attracted some of the biggest names in ProRodeo, since it’s not uncommon for cowboys to win more than $10,000. Bareback rider Royce Ford set two records in 2005. His 92-point, record-setting ride helped him also set the three-head average record of 259 points.

Saddle bronc rider Bob W. Brown (pictured at left with Tanya Tucker and Larry Mahan) set the arena record in 1981 with an 88-point ride.

A little bit can go a long way in ProRodeo. With only six competitions last week worth a collective $246,138, a handful of cowboys climbed the 2018 PRCA World Standings within the Top 15. Eli Vastbinder had the biggest move this week, jumping from 24th to 12th thanks to placing second in the average at the Fort Mohave (Ariz.) Classic PRCA Xtreme Bulls event March 3.
