In high school he competed in steer wrestling, tie-down roping, bull riding and saddle bronc riding…His grandfather was Floyd Kirby, a Dodge City Roundup Rodeo Hall of Famer for whom an annual team roping event in Dodge City is named…Travels with Casey Sisk of Corona, N.M., and Shank Stephens of Hinton, Okla. … A groin injury in June 2007 sidelined Kirby for four months and he decided around that time to focus his career on saddle bronc riding … Won the 2008 Kansas Lottery Championship Rodeo Series (a series of 14 professional rodeos in Kansas, with minimum participation in eight rodeos)
