Set an arena record with a 3.7-second run in Round 7 (which was broken at the 2005 Wrangler NFR) and set a Wrangler NFR earnings record in team roping with $95,102. Also won Round 6 with a 3.9-second run and placed in four additional rounds. Won the National Western Stock Show & Rodeo (Denver) and the Walker County Fair and Rodeo (Huntsville, Texas), with Chad Masters. Finished fourth in the world with $136,725
• 2003: Won the Tour Championships (Dallas); the Walker County Fair & Rodeo (Huntsville, Texas) and the Kitsap County Fair & Stampede (Bremerton, Wash.). Co-champion in Round 10 with a 4.4-second run at the Wrangler NFR, with Chad Masters; finished seventh in the world standings with $98,862
• 2002: Qualified for the Olympic Command Performance Rodeo (Farmington, Utah)

His father, David, invented and patented the first mechanical team roping simulator in 1989 ... Michael enjoys golfing, hunting and riding colts ... He is actively involved in the family business, developing training techniques  ... Began roping when he was 8 years old and has been featured in numerous TV commercials and magazine ads … Primary competition horse is Jackyl, a dun gelding he bought from fellow team roper Kory Koontz in 2006
