Walt died April 24, 2010 of an aneurysm while warming up for morning slack at the Clovis (Calif.) Rodeo. He was 20...Horse Colonel Parkay "Gold Digger," finished second in the AQHA/PRCA Team Roping Heading Horse of the Year balloting in 2006.

Hobbies include golf and basketball … His brother, Clay, has won three team roping world titles (2005, 2013-14) and his younger brother, Brady, and his father, Dennis, are also team ropers who have qualified for the NFR … Mother, Terri Kaye Kirkland, competes in barrel racing; at the 2003 Wrangler NFR, Terri Kaye, Travis and Clay became the first mother-sons combination to qualify in the same year; all three of them made it back in 2004 and 2005 … In 2010, Brady, Clay and Travis became the first set of three brothers to qualify for the Wrangler NFR team roping in the same year …Enjoys watching the NBA Sacramento Kings … Rodeo idols are his parents ...
