• 2013: Won the Walker County Fair and Rodeo (Huntsville, Texas) with 49.2 sec. on three head

6-0, 165 … Parents John and Sally Bland, sisters, Sarah and Rebekah, brother, Brooks … Wife, Christi, sons, Barrett and Jace … His dad and uncles, Rex and Steve, are the only three-brother set to qualify for the National Finals Rodeo in three different events, John as a bull rider (1976-77), Steve as a tie-down roper (1980), and Rex as a steer wrestler (1971-73) … Got into rodeo when he was 5-6 years old because his dad and uncles competed at the National Finals Rodeo … Considers the best aspect to competing in steer roping is “how humbling steer roping is – one little thing can throw it off” … Describes his roping style as conservative and tries to stay in line and go as smooth as possible … Cheyenne, Wyo., and Pendleton, Ore., are his favorite places to compete because “they are good traditions, but they’re all special – even the little rodeos. Just doing it is a blessing in itself” … Graduated from Tejon (N.M.) High School with a class of 25 students in 1992 … Attended New Mexico Junior College and graduated with an Ag Business degree from Texas Tech University … Works as a rancher … Enjoys watching college football, his kids and training versatility horses … Got back into rodeo after 15 years of not competing since his family was self-sufficient by then, so he had the time to do it and had always missed competing … Stays in shape by working on his ranch and roping when he has time … Looks up to ProRodeo Hall of Famer Guy Allen … Likes to look at old ranches and compare ranching techniques with others while traveling to rodeos … Favorite food is steak … Favorite movie is Gone in 60 Seconds or The Italian Job … Favorite book is the Bible … Likes listening to old rock music, hair bands and bands such as AC/DC
